Advanced technology to protect the driver and passengers on all roads and under all circumstances. Hyundai·Kia Motors R&D Center is a world leader in developing tests and cutting-edge technology such as ABS, EBD, VDC and AGCS that safely protect people from any situation that may occur on the road.

Active Safety
ABS (anti-lock braking system) shortens braking distance and secures control of the car while driving on slippery roads. EBD(electronic brake-force distribution) automatically optimizes the distribution of braking power between the front and rear wheels in relation to changes in car weight. TCS (traction control system) prevents the wheels from slipping when moving from a stationary position or maximizes the vehicle’s accelerating and climbing abilities. BAS (brake assist system) instantly increases braking power in an emergency situation to shorten the braking distance. VDC (vehicle dynamic control) actively controls the engine torque and brakes during sudden turns and stops to secure stability of the car. These are just some of the technologies that are connected to driving safety. Studies are also being conducted into preventative safety measures.
The recently developed AGCS (Active Geometry Control Suspension) is a world-first proprietary technology developed by Hyundai·Kia Motors to maximize chassis control. When there is risk of the rear wheels slipping due to sudden turning at high speeds, the toe-in angle of the outside rear wheel can be adjusted up to 3 degrees towards the turning direction to optimize cornering performance.
Passive safetyWe are putting every effort into developing safe cars that can offer greater protection for occupants during an accident. In addition to multi-directional crash tests, we are continuing to put our cars through various tests mandated by national regulations and safety institutions as well as different conditions encountered on roads in order to create the safest vehicles on the road.
From the initial stages of car development, computer simulations are used to predict crash safety performance and aid in the development of high-safety car bodies and passenger protection equipment.
Through various tests that include frontal, side, rear, offset, car to car and car to pole crashes, we assess the space needed to ensure occupant protection and the effectiveness of restraint devices.
