In 1999, Hyundai took its first step on the road to prominence on the international sports stage by entering into an agreement with FIFA to serve as an Official Partner of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ Korea/Japan and 13 FIFA tournaments as well as with UEFA to sponsor EURO tournaments since 2000, until to be a firm supporter of the most recent EURO 2008™ Ever since, Hyundai has become a strong supporter of the world’s most loved sport football.
The renewal of the partnership with UEFA and FIFA, demonstrates Hyundai’s long-term commitment to support the game of football. By sponsoring UEFA EURO 2008™ and 10 FIFA competitions including the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, Hyundai has secured a firm foundation that will enable it to advance its sports marketing strategy thereby securing a better foothold in the European market.

Hyundai’s first involvement in the European football scene started with its sponsorship for EURO 2000™ (June 17 ~ July 10, co-hosted by Belgium & the Netherlands). As the Official Automotive Partner of EURO 2000™, Hyundai basked in unprecedented level of media exposure and successfully undertook a variety of marketing programs that raised Hyundai’s brand awareness among football fans everywhere.

The first agreement with FIFA included the sponsorship of 14 FIFA sanctioned tournaments between 1999 and 2002, culminating in the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan™.
The new partnership involves 10 international FIFA competitions including the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Germany.

As the Official Sponsor of the Korea Football Association and the Korean National Football Team, Hyundai has been playing a major role in Korean football development. Hyundai’s efforts and support for Korean football have been fruitful the Korean national team won fourth place in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Hyundai also owns and operates its own professional football team, the Chonbuk Hyundai Motors Football Club that, since 1994, has been a powerhouse in the Korean Professional Football League and has played a significant role in developing Korean football at all levels of the game.
