Hyundai Motor feels a strong social responsibility as a global corporate citizen and is participating in many diverse social contribution activities worldwide.
Through social service work, the primary portion of its social contribution activities, Hyundai supports work for the disabled, elderly, children, adolescents, women, and local communities in many capacities, and seeks meaningful social contribution activities. As the importance of environmental protection has become more evident, Hyundai Motor has extended its social service work to this area as well.
Hyundai successfully carried out volunteer programs like family member volunteers, volunteers to repair housing for the elderly, company employee volunteers, emergency rescue volunteers, and more, as well as establishing and maintaining 115 employee volunteer groups. Hyundai formed 'one company one village' with 69 villages in Korea and helped communities directly through local product purchases and volunteer work during the busy agricultural season.
In 2007, a year dedicated to global social contribution, Hyundai Motor Company prepared its infrastructure to execute corporate social responsibility, as well as social contributions. It established the 'Hyundai Motor Global CSR Network' with primary production and sales subsidiaries around the world, and will establish a network covering all its subsidiaries worldwide, by continuously extending the network. Hyundai also laid foundations by promoting global CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities, and by developing and opening the 'Global CSR Web site' for information exchange.
With the acceleration of global management initiatives, Hyundai's overseas operations are fulfilling the company's responsibilities as a global corporate citizen, engaging in many different social contribution activities, to benefit local communities.
Hyundai supported expansion of the Sujita Academy and its dormitory located in a remote village in Dhaneshari in Northern India, together with the Social Service Joint Funding Association and JTS in Korea (Join Together Society). Over the past two years, 200 million Won has helped to build four classrooms and a three story dormitory at the Academy. Hyundai hopes the Sujita Academy becomes a place of hope for students in India and will continue to provide support for the school.
Hyundai Motor Company's German sales subsidiary (HME) donates two Euros for each vehicle sold to the Harigala Middle School located on the outskirts of Kayelicha, in South Africa. Thanks to the success of this support program, Harigala Middle School was selected as a state–operated school support program by the Minister of Education in South Africa.
