Parallel hybrid system

Proving that simple is splendid, the Parallel Hybrid System features the engine clutch and motor between the engine and transmission. Electronic Vehicle Mode (EV mode) brings you both excellent fuel economy and powerful performance.

How the technology works

Imagine you have two very efficient hearts.
Sonata Hybrid has one powerful internal combustion engine and an efficient electric motor. The combination guarantees more power and improved fuel economy.

Motor : EV mode
Hybrid system ready. Engine does not start at this point.
Motor : EV mode
Only motor operates when the vehicle is running with low torque. Neither a drop of fuel is consumed nor engine noise is created.
Engine + Motor
When acceleration is required engine starts automatically. Both engine and motor is used efficiently to achieve the highest fuel economy.
Engine + Motor
Engine and motor provide torque and power required to climb the incline without stress.
Engine + Motor
Either engine or motor runs. When the battery is low the vehicle starts recharging.
Recharge
Engine stops. Regenerative braking system harnesses energy generated when braking to recharge the battery.
Engine hold
When the vehicle comes to an hold (i.e. traffic light) both engine and motor completely stops – zero fuel consumption and no emission to the air.
